Fly fishing from the boat allows us a significant advantage over anglers who fish from the shore. Shore anglers are subject to significant territorial limitations, only able to primarily fish the west side of the lake.  Additionally, the Lahontan Cutthroat Trout primarily visit shallow west shore areas from November to April.   Our boats allow us season long access to find the fish as they move to new areas of the lake with very little territorial limitations (note – there a few protected areas on the lake that are prohibited to fish due to wild life restrictions).

When is the best time for Anglers to visit Pyramid Lake for Lahontan Cutthroat Trout?

The fishing season for Pyramid Lake is October 1 – June 30.  The short answer is the entire fishing season is pretty darn good. And the reason is – we have access to fish the entire lake to due the fact we fish from Boats.  Weather, mainly wind, can be a limiting factor to access the Lake, but, other than that, its fair game for us to go fishing. We have even fished while it has been snowing and had remarkable days landing many trophy fish

Shore fisherman are limited by territorial limitations (only the West side of the Lake) and the fact that the fish may school away from the shallow depths.  Boat fisherman on the other hand, can not only fish close to shore, but, can move to deeper depths and have access to the entire Lake (80% of it – some of it is protected area).

The fish are typically in deeper water in the Months of October, May, and June. In those months, its not unusual to see us fish depths 15 feet to 80 feet. The rest of the months, we typically fish in shallower waters, any where from 5 feet to 30 feet.
